Donations

The Charity Concert has been over but we are still getting uncollected ticket sale money, and other donations trickling through. So the final amount calculated will be known within the next few days.

Meanwhile, we will no longer be accepting new donations from today, but for those who would still like to donate to the Japanese Red Cross, please refer to the:-

The amount raised so far...

Concert finished!!

Thank you for supporting this charity concert everyone!!

It was more than I could have hoped for. I was so moved by the enormous generosity of the all the people who were involved in this concert. We didn't even think about an encore, and yet you all asked for it and gave us a standing ovation. I had to hold back tears.

When I first decided to do this charity concert, I had absolutely no idea how to go about it, let alone the kind of concert it was going to be.

This is the order of how the concert came about...

15th of March:  my original plan of doing concerts in Japan had been cancelled due to the uncertainty of the situation in Japan.  On this night, I pledged to raise $10,000 to help in aid of the earthquake victims in Japan.

16th of March: Decided to do a charity concert of some kind. Began investigating on a possible venue. Sydney Japanese School, local school halls, etc. Initial date of the concert: 20th March.

17th of March: Contacted people who could help with the concert. Decided to do the concert at Turramurra Uniting Church and realised 20th was too soon. Concert date changed to the 27th March.

18th of March: A day of ringing people to find out who could help perform and help volunteer on the day. Started making flyers.

19th of March: Started printing tickets. Venue holds 400, so 400 tickets were printed.

20th of March: Deciding on the program. Tickets start being sold at $20 each.

22nd of March: Meeting at the venue to see how to use the hall. Decision to make charity cookies. Changes in performers, and changes in the concert program.

24th of March: Tickets all sold out...  We had to inform the venue to expand the rooms somehow. Extra tickets were issued. Further changes in the concert program.

25th of March: Pre-purchase tickets were no longer available. 500+ tickets were already distributed.

26th of March: One concert piece had to be cancelled. A new piece was put in instead. No sleep, just practise!

On Sunday, 27th of March,  there were already 550 tickets issued before the doors were opened. When the concert started, there were over 740 people in the room.

These are the result of the amount raised on the day.

Ticket sales: $14,930 (some people donated extra amount or gave away the change)

Donations (excluding the collection box on the day): $2,515 (of which $1100 is going to the Australian Red Cross)

Cookies and Drinks sale: $1,708

Total amount raised: $19,153

Venue hire cost: -$250
Insurance: -$50

Total (excluding collection box*):  $18,853

*Collection box is registered under:
  • Sydney Japan Club Inc
  • Japanese Society of Sydney Inc
  • Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc
and we will find out the result in the next few days.

Thank you everyone!
